Permanent Contract – 35 hours per week

The Company – Stockport School of Gymnastics
Stockport School of Gymnastics is a community club in the North West of England, offering competitive classes for girls, recreational classes for girls and boys, parent and toddler classes, pre-school classes, home school classes, teen classes and adult classes. The club offers Ladies fitness classes, birthday parties if the gym is free and is regularly used by cheerleaders and other gymnastics clubs. We have been providing gymnastics in the borough for over 25 years and will continue to do so in our permanent facility at Newby Road in Hazel Grove and in the Life Leisure Dialstone Centre in Offerton. The club is a Community Interest Limited Company, run by a Board of Directors.
Job Role
Reporting to the CEO the Business Manager is responsible for all aspects of the day to day operation of the gymnastics club at both sites. This would include:
Organisation of the services and staff such that customers can take part in gymnastics based exercise. This includes the classes, their timetables and any special events, such as competitions.
Organisation for the day-to-day running of the centres at both Offerton and Newby Road centres.
Responsibity for making sure that the customers have an enjoyable time and that all the equipment works properly, the buildings are maintained and that staff follow health and safety procedures.
Responsibility for controlling budgets and the overall profitability of the centres.
Recruiting, scheduling and managing staff, including effective leadership, Performance Reviews, Development Reviews, training needs, competencies and to implement the Company’s Grievance and Disciplinary procedure.
Ensuring that there is a commercial approach to the provision of services, ensuring that the centres constantly identify and responds to changes in patterns of customer needs and expectations.
Formulation of budgets and monitor revenue/expenditure to ensure costs are kept within budget provision and to seek to increased income, achieve efficiencies and reduce costs in line with agreed business plans.
To identify opportunities for external funding which supports club aims, objectives and priorities.
Produce reports as required by the board.
Requirements
No formal qualifications are required; however it is essential to be interested in physical fitness and sport. Relevant qualifications could include sports and leisure management and sports science. Gymnastics coaching qualifications or knowledge would be advantageous
but are not necessary.
We would expect to see customer service skills, administrative and management ability, marketing and presentation skills, good interpersonal, time management and organisational skills, good team-working skills and the ability to lead and motivate teams, computer literate and a flexible approach to working hours.
Ideally a knowledge of sport and leisure management and any relevant legislation, guidance and best practice or an agreed objective to learn.
Able to work on own initiative, with minimal supervision, and to meet varying and conflicting deadlines
Flexibility
You’ll usually work 35 hours a week, which will be mostly office-based. You’ll be expected to spend time around the centres, talking to staff and customers and monitoring the way the centre is run. You’ll need to be flexible as you may need to be at the centre for special events and emergencies, or to cover for absent staff and could include evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
