Recreational Classes at Target
Life Dialstone
We now
have the use of the gymnasium for the weekend as well as the sports hall.
This allows us to run the recreational sessions alongside the club
sessions throughout the weekend. This gives gymnasts more
choice as to when they want to train and for how long.
In
the gymnasium the set up consists of a set of bars, a high and low beam, a
vault and a floor area. There will be 3 groups, each no more than 8
gymnasts, making the atmosphere less frantic than previous sessions.
Parents viewing is restricted but is encouraged. The gymnasium will be used for all 9 sessions. The
sports hall is also be available during some of the sessions to allow
use of the ski run and rebound. Rebound is good fun and will be available
during most of the 9 sessions. The ski run is important for gymnasts
wanting to flick, but not all gymnasts need to use it. The ski run will
only be available during the 3 Saturday morning sessions. As we are able
to use the ski run and rebound for these sessions we will be able to have
2 more groups. During each session there will be a warm up
followed by 25 minutes on the first piece and then 25 minutes on the
second piece. We offer both 1 and 2 hour sessions. Saturday
morning sessions are 1 hour only, but all other sessions will support 2
hours classes. Gymnasts can train for sessions 4 and 5, sessions 6 and 7
and sessions 8 and 9. The Club
The club is a private organisation and hires Target Life Dialstone, as any user could. We are governed by a Constitution and are
affiliated to British Gymnastics, the sports governing body. All coaches
have been through some form of training to allow them to coach. We have 22
coaches with BG qualifications.
We are Gym Mark accredited, the sign of a child friendly
club. We have a child Protection Officer and all coaches have been CRB checked.
We participate in the British Gymnastics Proficiency Scheme, which used to
called BAGA Badges. There are 8 badges which cover general gymnastics and a
further 6 more advanced badges which cover floor and vault apparatus. At
Christmas we run a competition open to all gymnasts followed by a disco and
party. In the Summer we usually take part in one of the local carnivals,
either Stockport or Hazel Grove.
How to Join
If
you are interested in gymnastics and would like to join our club, then the
best idea is to come on a Saturday morning at 10.00 and have a look at the
club and how the sessions are run. Your first session is free. If there is
room in the club, then you can start immediately. If not then there is the
waiting list. The
Waiting List
Gymnastics in Stockport is very popular, especially after
the last Olympics. We have a longish waiting list depending on the time
that you want and the age and sex of your child.
Do apply by sending an email to
the club or filling in an application form on this website.
